God
has called the Body of Christ to be a refuge to both saints and
sinners. We are not only called to reach the lost, but we are also
called to minister to those among us who are hurting. Everyone in
the Body of Christ experiences times when we are hurting deep within.
The enemy has trapped believers into thinking that because we are
saved, we are not supposed to experience down times or express feelings
of hurt, but we all need a place that we can go for healing.
It
is one thing for the Body to heal those on the outside, but what
happened to those on the inside who are hurting? We are called to
be a city of refuge. Numbers 35:25-28 describes the duties of the
congregation in a city of refuge. It is not the Pastor or leaders
job solely to reach everybody. It is the job of the congregation
to be a refuge one to another. People will only experience love
when the Body of Christ shows it to them and to each other.
What
is a city of refuge? A city of refuge is a place where one can be
free to be who they really are. They can lay down their title, forget
about their problems, and just enjoy life. They can also find comfort
for their situation and encouragement on how to make it through
it. We are to be a refuge not only to the lost, but to those among
us.
It
is important for the Body of Christ to appreciate one another and
help one another through life. Don’t get caught up in the
“air of salvation” that makes you think you are better
than anyone else, just because you are saved. No one will ever come
to you or seek you for refuge if you always present yourself as
higher up or of more prestige. No, we are called to be a refuge.
It is time to drop the façade of “being saved”
and sincerely seek to aid one another through life.
