Tallahassee
-- Dr. Alvin D. Stewart, Jr., senior pastor of Abundant Life &
Restoration Ministries (ALARM) International, was consecrated and
ordained to the office of Bishop on Friday, May 5th during a special
7 p.m. ceremony in The Old West Florida Enrichment Center at 2344
Lake Bradford Road.
Pastors,
Bishops and other ministry leaders from around the region and country
participated in the sacred and joyous ceremony to elevate Dr. Stewart
into one of the highest positions in ministry.
In
his new position, Dr. Stewart will be the First Presiding Bishop
of The River Fellowship International, a national ministry network
founded by Bishop Joby Brady, senior pastor of The River in Durham,
NC. The network includes churches in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina,
Texas, Ohio, and Hawaii.
As
a Bishop, Stewart will provide guidance and wisdom to other pastors
concerning the growth and development of their ministries. He will
also utilize resources available through The River Fellowship to
build God’s Kingdom more effectively through a new church
complex for ALARM that has the potential to revitalize South Tallahassee.
“As
we begin construction of our new ministry facility on Ridge Road,
I’m receiving advice, encouragement, knowledge and resources
from dozens of pastors and churches that have led similar Kingdom
and community building efforts around the country,” explained
Dr. Stewart. “Being ordained a Bishop allows me to bring so
much more to Tallahassee, both spiritually and economically, especially
as we work to help rejuvenate the spirit and hope of those who live
on the Southside.”
Dr.
Stewart founded Abundant Life & Restoration Ministries International
in 1996. Since its inception, ALARM International has grown tremendously.
In 2003, the ministry purchased 31.8 acres of land on Ridge Road
in South Leon County for their new ministry facilities. The ultimate
vision for the property includes a “Whole Man Complex”
that will house the ALARM Community Development Center, a Kingdom
Empowerment Center with retail space for small businesses, a Teen’s
Firehouse youth facility, a Senior Citizen’s Home, and a 2500-seat
sanctuary called the King’s Dome.
The first phase of construction, which will begin later this year,
includes an Educational Enrichment Center for the ALARM School of
Excellence and an 800-seat sanctuary.
The
Florida State Senate, Leon County and the City of Tallahassee declared
May 5th and 6th 2006 as Bishop Alvin D. Stewart days in the state
of Florida.
